Replacement Courses: Search by Alternate Course or IFlag

Sometimes, students need to take coursework at an institution other than the one currently attending. The Replacement Courses feature in Transferology® Lab enables institutions to assist students in finding classes that would transfer to the home college or university and fulfill degree requirements there. This article overviews how institutions can help students find courses that would transfer back to fulfill requirement areas such as liberal or general education goals, or even electives.

Replacement Courses: Search by Department details how staff can search for courses that have been identified as equivalent to classes at the the user's home institution. Suppose a student needs to transfer back a course that would fulfill the home institution's Logic and Quantitative Reasoning liberal education requirement. The student doesn't need to take a course that would transfer as equivalent to a specific class at the school. There are multiple courses that could fulfill this requirement, and the student can choose amongst these options.

Within Requirement Categories, staff can help students find courses to transfer back as fulfilling requirements through the location of transfer rules that contain a specific:

Transferology® Lab will search the established equivalencies in the home institution's database. A list of all the home course identities from active transfer rules that carry the element selected in the Alt course/iflg field will be provided.

Note that while "MATH100R," "MATH101R," "MATH200R," etc. are listed within the Course field, they not actual courses at CollegeSource University. These multi-part codes are used to classify non-equivalent transfer courses that meet the school's Logic & Quantitative Reasoning requirement.

MATH141 is an actual course number. Why does this course appear on the list? It's because the uAchieve®  transfer rule that contains this course as the target has "LOGICQR" in the acourse field.  Each institution's results will be tailored to the coding conventions used within AltCourses/ACourses, User Added Home Courses, Course Tags, and IFlags.

Tip: It may be helpful to review the home institution's coding conventions with any staff members who will be using the Replacement Courses functionality in Transferology® Lab to help ensure data will be interpreted correctly.
