Replacement Courses: Find Classes to Transfer Back to the Home Institution
Students may need to take coursework at an institution other than the one currently attending due to moving home for the summer or changing life circumstances. These students must find courses that would transfer to the home institution and fulfill degree requirements there. The Replacement Courses feature in the Transferology® Lab enables institutions to assist students in finding these classes. This article provides an overview of resources available to staff when using this feature.

Replacement Courses: Search by Department
This article provides an overview of how to search for courses that will transfer back to the home institution as equivalent to a specific course offered by that school. A Transfer Specialist would use this feature, for example, to help a student find a course equivalent in transfer to the home school's MATH140 College Algebra.
Replacement Courses: Search by Alternate Course or IFlag
This article explains how institutions can help students find courses that can transfer back to the home institution to fulfill a requirement such as a liberal education goal area. In this case, the Transfer Specialist is not looking to help the student find an equivalent to MATH140 College Algebra, but rather, any course that would fulfill the institution's Logic and Quantitative Reasoning goal area.
Within Replacement Courses, users can search for courses within the home institution's transfer articulation rules that contain a specific Alternate Course, User Added Home Course, Course Tag, or IFlag.
- An Alternate Course is a secondary identity that a course carries to help it meet a requirement on an audit.
- In uAchieve®, these are the ACourses in the Alternate Course field.
- Transferology® additionally treats User Added Home Courses and Course Tags within TES® as Alternate Courses.
- IFlags (also called "IFlgs" or "institutional flags") are one-to-three character values within uAchieve that an institution chooses to represent course characteristics. Just like Alternate Courses, IFlags can be used to match coursework on a degree audit.
